english

As requested by my language teacher to expand our reign of knowledge in the field of book reading, I chanced to get hold of one of Charlotte Bronte’s book, Jane Eyre. Well, to my morbid fascination the book is somehow written like a form of art, in fact it is such fantastically written that I look upon the books I have read as trash. Perhaps that was a little exagerrated. Language as we know, is a very complex subject. It can be used for many different purposes and maybe this is my first encounter of language with an element of structural knack. However, that style of writing was based pretty long ago in the 18th hundreds. If I were ever to live in that era, I will defintiely reflect upon the English I use to converse daily in horrid disgust. Though times have changed, it’s a pity that such priceless tradition has been diffused in our modern culture, but I am pretty sure that some people still speak like that, people such as the Royal Families in the UK. To look at Singapore today, I am rather amused with our language which is not really conservative but relatively economical in the words we use. Oh normal Singaporeans will definitely understand and you gotta excuse me now, or Singaporeanly, “Siam lah”.

‘Chocolate’s my new best friend. You will soon know why =D
